Gregorio is a working man who has sacrificed so much of his life for others. These people were very thankful at first, but in a short time they took all this sacrifice for granted, and the moment Gregorio stopped providing, they turned their backs on him when he needed them the most.
I read this book today from start to finish, and it’s very thought-provoking because there were times when I also felt that some sacrifices I made were underappreciated. Also, there were times when I took for granted all the love and care that my family gave me. But nothing should be taken for granted, and one should appreciate every moment and everything that the people who love us do, and give that same love when they need it.
The book is very explicit about Gregorio’s transformation, but it can also be interpreted as something metaphorical: the moment he stopped providing for his family, they began to see him as a bug, and over time Gregorio himself internalized this view, forgetting everything he had done for them.
In short, this book will make you lose your appetite and question many aspects of your life.
