The Final Empire

Author: Brandon Sanderson

My favorite book so far

In 2021, one of my new year’s resolutions was to read at least 3 books. Back in school I used to read some classics, but only for homework, I never once told myself “man, I love reading, this will be my hobby.” This was the third book I started that year, discovered after searching on YouTube for “the best books in 2021.” The first two were good, but I was still reading to check off a resolution, not out of any genuine love for it. This all changed with this book, I was reading chapter after chapter, devouring every page and feeling so immersed in Scadrial.

Some people will say fantasy doesn’t contribute to your growth as a person. I disagree.

How fantasy books contributed to you?

One of my favorite quotes from Naval Ravikant is “read what you love until you love to read”. When I read The Final Empire it changed all my perspective, it made me realize that reading can be fun, it was the start of my love for reading. Reading is one of the healthiest habits out there and to start loving it you have to read what you love until reading becomes a habit. Once reading becomes something you look forward to rather than something you endure, you naturally start reaching for books on science, philosophy, relationships, money, or your own career.
