Switch 2: PC gamer perspective

I have always been a PC gamer. Platforms like Steam let me find games with big discounts, and GOG offers DRM-free games that I can save on a USB drive and play anywhere. I

bought The Witcher 3 for 10 dollars!

So why should I want a Switch if I have a PC?

Couch-coop games

As the name says, it’s more comfortable to play a couch co-op game from your couch, on a console, with a TV. There are two main reasons. First, consoles are made for this: you sit down, turn on the console, and play on a big TV. You can do something similar with a PC, but it’s not as plug-and-play as a console. Second, having the console in your living room makes it accessible to relatives who live with you, and even to guests, so they can play with you. One of the games I had the most fun with was Mario 3D World, and not only because it’s a good game, but because I played it with my brother.

Portability

I want to warn you about this point: the Switch 2 is not that portable. You can take it to play in your room or carry it to a friend’s house, but it doesn’t fit in your pocket, so it’s not ideal for playing during a break at work.

Having said that, there is a certain beauty in taking your Switch on vacation and playing it in a hotel. That is something you will never do with your PC.

Physical games

Physical games have some advantages: you really own them, you can trade in a game you’ve already finished, or simply sell it to buy another one. I know there was a time when people bought PC games on CDs, but that is already in the past.

Reasons to not buy a Switch 2

Conclusions

Buy a Switch 2 if you want couch co-op, a console you can travel with, and physical games. Skip it if you only care about price or true portability.
